Precision Extrusion

Aluminium precision extrusion is a manufacturing process in which a heated aluminium billet is pressed through a die with great accuracy to create complex shapes with precise tolerances. These high-quality profiles meet the specifications of demanding markets like aerospace and the medical industry. At Wilxpro, we start with dimensional tolerances from ± 0.02 mm. We can also produce complex magnesium profiles.

Our extrusion processes are focused on achieving optimal accuracy.

Wilxpro aluminium profiles surpass the standard through properties such as straightness, torsion, concentricity, parallelism, surface roughness and precision; with dimensional tolerances as low as +/- 0.02 mm.

Our profiles can be processed in flexible quantities, in-house, through a process from extrusion to surface treatment. This allows us to take full responsibility of the production process and deliver the best possible end result to our customers.

We can also extrude starting from as little as 10 kg, which is suitable for both prototypes and small production runs. For higher volumes, we can set up full production lines, including post-processing such as CNC machining, surface treatments, and assembly. This benefits in ways such as faster development and testing phase, cost savings, design improvement and process optimisation.

Machining

Wilxpro is the specialist in machining aluminium and magnesium profiles. Over the years, we have evolved into an efficient processor of highly accurate and complex aluminium extrusion products.

Machining at Wilxpro summarized:

Tolerances starting from +/-0.01 mm;

A machine park of approximately 30 CNC-controlled machines, partially roboticized;

3-, 4-, and 5-axis machining with up to 60,000 revolutions per minute;

Maximum dimensions: X=6500mm, Y=1000mm, Z=500mm;

Surface Treatment & Finishing

Aluminium is, by nature, a versatile high-tech material and offers numerous possibilities for the production of high-quality profiles. However, despite its many advantages, aluminium can be susceptible to certain characteristics such as corrosion, wear, poor thermal conductivity, or increased friction. A suitable aluminium surface treatment can address these challenges and enhance the overall quality of the material.

Precision at Wilxpro is not only crucial for extrusion but also for surface treatments. Surface treatments and coatings are applied not only to extend the product’s lifespan and prevent corrosion but often for aesthetic reasons as well.

We can guarantee the highest quality in this regard because we are able to perform selective laser removal (local de-coating) and consistently maintain the same formula. If you choose to anodise in a particular colour, we can ensure the same colour on every profile. By selectively de-coating and thus laser removing the anodised layer, we can work with utmost precision. This is also a more cost-effective and accurate alternative to masking.
